From August 4th to September 17th, in cooperation with the University Library (UB) of the Free University of Berlin, UGF will be organizing a photo exhibition documenting the reality behind forced child labour in Uzbekistan’s cotton industry.
The exhibition will be showing photos were taken by the documentary photographer Thomas Grabka in 2004, as well as new images from last year’s cotton harvest in 2009 taken by UGF. The exhibition aims to portray that in spite of Uzbekistan’s signing of various ILO conventions in 2008, banning the use of forced and child labour in the country, this practice continues to be an ongoing reality.
