This series of paintings portrays the beauty of Uzbekistan. It is a homage to home and the dream of freedom.

The artworks were created by the Uzbek artist Shukhrat Babajanov who was forced to leave his home country as a political refugee fifteen years ago for his criticism of the Uzbek government.
Mr Babajanov exhibits his artworks all over the world. He is a recipient of the Marion Gräfin Dönhoff Award and the prestigious Hellman-Hammett Award. Alongside his artistic work, Babajanov is well known as a journalist of the Uzbek service of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty.

On December 2, 2016, the former chief curator of the Urgench City Art Gallery Shirin Tosheva reported that the National Security Service of Uzbekistan ordered to destroy 16 paintings by Shukhrat Babajanov that are part of the Gallery’s collection.
